(18 Jan 2022 - FRESNO) Almost a year and a half has gone by since rumors first started circulating about a move for the Costco location at the dilapidated Shaw & Jennifer plaza. Now, after Fresno's District 2 Project Review Committee approved a conditional-use permit & rezone in a 4-0 vote, that move is closer to becoming reality. Still awaiting approval from 2 other entities (City Council & Planning Commission), the work hasn't begun just yet but residents in the area in favor of progress can certainly rejoice at this first milestone. Because of a 100-year lease on the existing location (slated to run through 2085), Costco would likely find a new tenant for the location on Shaw. Meanwhile, the new 185,000 square foot location for the the retail giant, complete with a gas station and car wash, is planned for Herndon & Riverside: NE tract.
Similar to the exit ramp for Sprouts at Herndon & Clovis, the design scheme at this time calls for an exit off Herndon into the Costco property, breaking with the strict expressway status Herndon travelers experience across the rest of the Fresno transport artery.
